Yesterday morning was hard, Selemani had been awake in the night and as a result we were both exhausted, my back was playing me up and to be honest I had little patience. It all started by me sitting him down for breakfast, he made absolutely no attempt to tell me he didn't want it he just screamed and I mean he screamed for half an hour from the back of his throat. That half an hour and two minutes after it he spent in the naughty corner. After that he was in a foul mood screaming at everything, not talking to me, just being a grump basically. We were supposed to be going to a halloween party but due to the mood of the house I didn't feel much like it so I text my friend and said we were not going. Mid morning though I had to go meet someone at Cradle so I had to drag Selemani there with him screaming and shouting, I promptly took him to Beth and asked if she would watch him for half hour then I relaxed, took a breather.
I met with a friend at Cradle for a little while then when we were done she offered to take us home, by this point Selemani had apologised to me and was back to talking to me again. So we hoped in her car and she drove us back, when we reached our house another tantrum promptly started because Selemani did NOT want to get out of the car. I first tried to be calm explaining that it was time to go home but when that didn't happen I took him and placed him in bed where he promptly fell asleep...thank goodness, peace at last!!
After two hours sleeping I woke him up and for the rest of the afternoon he was in a wonderful mood, we made cakes, drew some pictures and had a lovely time together.
I knew that adopting a three year old wasn't going to be easy, I love him with or without the tantrums but I hope over time he will learn his boundries, learn that I am not going anywhere and hopefully the tantrums will be long gone and forgotten.
Here are some pictures of us cooking cakes...
Today he made massive improvements, he was not shy at all in going to play with the other children at Cradle, when I asked him if he wanted to stay and play while I went to the hospital, he nodded and grinned so for the first time I left him. When I got back Mama Musa said he had been very good, at one point he asked 'Where is Mummy?' Mama Musa said 'She has gone to collect a new baby' He clapped and shouted new baby then went back to playing. This afternoon he also joined in with pre-school and was apparently the star student.
