About Me

My photo
In June 2011 I moved to Arusha, Tanzania, East Africa with the view of staying for one year. More than two years later and I have four beautiful Tanzanian foster children and there is no sign of me moving back to the UK. This blog was created as a way for family and friends to keep up to date on our life here and to see my little ones growing up, feel free to take a read and leave your comments. A Birthday Chilling At The Hot Springs!

March 25th we celebrated my 24th birthday by taking a trip to the Hot Springs, Krystina, Ollie, my wonderful friend Mary, my fantastic nanny Angel and I took Alfie, Layla, Bella, Jack and Peter and we had a fantastic day. It is the first time I have ever been to the hot springs, it took us several hours to get there and was a difficult journey, we had to drive through a river, over great rocks, through winding paths lined with trees, it was tricky but so worth it.
Top left Bella Going For A Swing, right pictures, me climbing the tree and jumping, bottom left, Ollie Monkeying around
When we reached the springs it was truly beautiful, hanging vines over clear blue water and for most of the day we were the only people there. Ollie and I both got stuck in by swinging on the rope swing and dropping into the water,at one point we even climbed about 15ft in the air and plunged into the warm, blue water below, I must admit though it took me a while to gather the courage to shuffle across the branch, lift one leg over and jump but it was fun.
Alfie hated being in the water because all the little fish nibble your feet and he was terrified, Layla was a bit unsure at first but seemed to get into it in the end, Bella my little daredevil jumped in on the rope swing with uncle Ollie and she loved swimming with the fish. Jack had his first swim, I even dunked him under the water a couple of times and it didn’t phase him, Peter also had what I can assume is his first swim too and again he appeared to really enjoy it, at one point he was in an inflatable ring and just kicked his legs back and relaxed.
Mary & Layla
Mary has never swam before so we encouraged her to sit on the edge but suddenly she just leaped in (she can’t swim) and she started thrashing around, I was holding Jack so couldn’t really do much, as she managed to sort of steady herself she grabbed onto me and pulled Jack and I in the water, it was all very scarey at the time but afterwards we laughed a lot. When I asked her what made her jump in she said that she didn’t realise it was going to be so deep. We had a really wonderful time at the springs, it was certainly worth the complicated drive.
Angel my nanny who comes to care for the kids while I work, it was a Monday so she joined us
In the evening about eleven of us went for dinner. It was lovely to celebrate my birthday with my kids and great friends in the day and my amazing friends and boyfriend in the evening. There were three English people, six Tanzanians, one Swedish and one Dutch person, it is so great to have friends from all around the world.
A special thank-you to Krystina and Ollie for ensuring I had a wonderful day, I love you guys x

The youngest three after their swim, they are also the three who seemed to enjoy it the most!

  1. Oh, these pictures make me so jealous! This is one of my favourite places in the world and I definitely miss it! Thanks for sharing and glad you guys could go. Amazing you had it to yourselves. The few times I went it was always crowded, but I guess I always went on a Sunday, so maybe during the week it's much less crowded. Lovely picture of Kili, too!
