About Me

My photo
In June 2011 I moved to Arusha, Tanzania, East Africa with the view of staying for one year. More than two years later and I have four beautiful Tanzanian foster children and there is no sign of me moving back to the UK. This blog was created as a way for family and friends to keep up to date on our life here and to see my little ones growing up, feel free to take a read and leave your comments. To find out about the work I am doing here visit www.tauf.org.uk (under construction).

Mwanza

Last week Dad treated the kids and I to a holiday in Mwanza, Mwanza is on the shores of Lake Victoria, it is much cooler there but it was very welcome as it is so hot in Arusha at the moment. I drove all the way there which ONLY took 15 1/2 hours...!! We went past Ngorogoro Crater and through the Serengeti where we saw, amongst other animals, giraffes, elephants, zebra and baboon. The giraffes were actually on the road in front of us and they had two tiny babies with them. We got a bit lost in the Serengeti, I ended up panicking because the sun had started setting and we were running dangerously low on petrol, luckily we just made it, although we were more than an hour later coming out the park than we should have been. The children were so well behaved in the car, just three months ago Selemani was petrified of cars and neither of them have been forced to go on a half hour journey before let alone our epic journey so I was VERY proud of them.

In Mwanza we stayed in the Ryan's Bay hotel which was fabulous during the week we enjoyed...

...Swimming...

By then end of the week both of them were jumping in from the edge and fully submersing themselves, I am so happy I have two water babies. Considering the fact that more than one month ago they had never been swimming and even hated the bath I am so amazed!!

...Bath Time...

I had my first bath in 6 months which meant I was able to properly shave my legs for the first time since being here...wonderful!!

...good food...

...and bad...
...wine...

I actually only turned my back for two secs and Nancy had hold of my wine, of course then it wasn't fair unless Selemani had a sip ;-)

...a boat trip...
Selemani was very unsure to begin with but relaxed after a while and would not stop talking about our 'boot' trip for the rest of the week!!

...good views...

L-O-V-E-!
The week was ended by a 14 hour return journey (that included stopping for dinner so not bad) we took a different route each way.

The main reason we chose Mwanza as our destination was because I have known for a while about an orphanage called Forever Angels which is also mainly for babies, I really wanted to visit it. I spent some time there and lots of time chatting to the director Amy Hathaway. Amy lives here from England with her husband and five adopted Tanzanian children, they are a lovely family. Forever Angels had 51 babies at the beginning of the week and 54 at the end, it is a lovely place which has children up to 6 years old, mainly because there is no where else for them. They also have a lot of special needs children. If you want to find out more go to www.foreverangels.org.

Thank-you Dad for a wonderful holiday, we had a fabulous time! <3 !
