About Me

My photo
In June 2011 I moved to Arusha, Tanzania, East Africa with the view of staying for one year. More than two years later and I have four beautiful Tanzanian foster children and there is no sign of me moving back to the UK. This blog was created as a way for family and friends to keep up to date on our life here and to see my little ones growing up, feel free to take a read and leave your comments. To find out about the work I am doing here visit www.tauf.org.uk (under construction).

Can You Help Me To Help Them?

Yesterday I returned to Ndombo with Michael & Aubree, Aubree and I had decided that her organisation would support Family 1, whilst I would try to support Family 2.
During this visit I brought the Mama some food and I also gave her some money so she can take a lift down the mountain when she goes into labour, she promised me that she will keep the money for that purpose.
Immediate Need
Their eldest son Ombeni needs the remainder of his school tuition in order for him to finish the year. This will cost £80. It is so important for him to be educated because he is now the man of the house, to become educated then earn a good wage he will be able to help his family out in the future.
Another immediate need is money per month to deliver a food parcel, this will include purchasing the supplies and transport costs. I am in the process of getting figures for this but it should be somewhere in the region of £100 per month.

Secondary Needs
To get the other children into school, Daniel, Samuel and Glory should all be going to Primary School, here in TZ primary education is free, however, most families can not afford the uniform or the text books. This cost around £50 for the year, so we would need £150 to send all three children to school for the next year. It would be fantastic if we could get this money by September which is when they need to enroll.

To purchase some goats for milk and chickens for eggs for the family to eat. This is something I have to research the costs for.

Long Term Need
Right now whilst the Mother is pregnant and when the baby is very young I plan to just support them, however, my long term goal is for her to be able to support her family without being reliant on me. Right now I am not completely sure how I will do this, I will have to discuss with the Mother what she would like to do and any talents she may have, then when the baby is between 3-6months I would like to come up with a plan.

To ensure that your money is going where it is supposed to I will be delivering school fees straight to the school, any money which is for supplies ie: food, I will purchase the food and deliver it to the family. I will request that the school produce reports and attendance records straight to me so that I can copy them and send them on to you, if you sponsor the family I will send you photographs and information every three months.

I truly hope that between you and I we can make a better life for this family, it really only costs pennies to put them through education and to help them get on their feet, I hope we can put the sparkle back into these children's eyes, Tumaini (the Mother's name) means Hope, I would like to put some Hope into this family!!
