When I took Selemani home I decided, despite the fact I wasn't keen on his name, I would keep it. I did this because he was three years old and to change his name may have been difficult, again I kept Nancy's name because she was two years old. However, even though B is also two years old I don't think I could live with the name Benedetha so I decided to change it and through telling the other children that I was changing B's name I realised that they were likely to cope very well with a name change, I asked them what they thought about changing their names and they seemed enthusiastic, so all three of my children have new names. Their 'old' names will still be incorporated into their full name, I am playing it by how they react, if they seem to like the new name, which so far they have, we will stick with it, if they don't then we won't...simple!! Just think, when you have a baby you get to choose their name, the name they will grow up with, the name you will use for the rest of your life, these are my children and I feel I want to give them a name that came from me, a name that I love and I hope they will love too.
Also Annie's real name is in fact Cecilia but she seems to be doing great answering to the name Annie.
So each child actually has four names now, a name I chose, a family name from my side, their birth name and then my surname, except Annie.
So the moment of truth...

wow, what a great way to bond your family. I found it difficult choosing a name for one child and you've had to do it for 4!
ReplyDeleteAlfie is a great name for your son, it suits him to a t, Layla has a cheeky feel to it, that is her particularly when she shrugs her shoulder and smiles but Isabella in my head will always be bumble. Where does kellen come from? xx
Thank-you Dolly, I did spend hours looking through baby names to choose the right ones, it certainly wasn't an easy decision. You are the first person to like Alfie, I love it and have always said my first boy would be named Alfie Adam and now he is :-) Kellen is a mix of my Mum Helen and my 'sister' Kelly! x
ReplyDeleteSorry but I will keep to there other names.
Deletelove the way you have used 'Kellen' Have you heard of/got any of the Alfie and Annie Rose story books? Meg loved them when she was little, they are written by Shirley Hughes, don't know of any with Layla or Isabella in the title-there's Belle and Sebastian of course but that's all xx
ReplyDeleteYes I have heard of those books and really want to get hold of them, we actually have Fancy Nancy which I know is her old name but it is still a part of her, just need something for Bella lol x
