About Me

My photo
In June 2011 I moved to Arusha, Tanzania, East Africa with the view of staying for one year. More than two years later and I have four beautiful Tanzanian foster children and there is no sign of me moving back to the UK. This blog was created as a way for family and friends to keep up to date on our life here and to see my little ones growing up, feel free to take a read and leave your comments. To find out about the work I am doing here visit www.tauf.org.uk (under construction).

My Family of Four is Now Five!!

Yesterday Mama Musa, Aubree, Lucy & myself travelled to Karatu, our initial reason was to go and get the relinquishment papers signed for my girl B, that went very well and now, although we are a long way from being completed at least the process of adoption is one step closer!!
In a previous blog http://mamanamtoto.blogspot.com/2012/06/they-said-yes.html I told you all about our last trip to Karatu where we were introduced to a little girl named Cecilia and I wanted to find a happy home for this beautiful malnourished little girl to grow up, well that little girl came home with us from Karatu today to live with me!!!
I thought of many different options for this little girl and in the end I decided to take her on, as a sponsored foster child, she will grow up in my family and with her little sister. I must admit that I was a little nervous about her coming to live with us, after all, she is a five year old girl, straight from a village where they only speak the village language, not Swaili or English, she will have never used a toilet before, never had any education, never done the simple things that we never think about such as using a spoon, showering, etc. However the minute she walked through the door I knew I had made the right decision, her & B just embraced each other & were kissing & giggling, it was so wonderful to witness these sisters reunited.
She has now been home 48 hours & you honestly would have thought she had always been here, she runs around with the children, giggling, playing, the first shower she took she was looking up to the water giggling, she uses the toilet with no trouble & she even goes to bed & sleeps through with no trouble. She really is a very sweet girl who appears, at the moment, to be settling in well to her new life.
She is a real Mummy to B, looking out for her, cuddling her when she is hurt, sticking up for her against the other kids. I am sure life with four children won't always be this easy, but, whilst it is, I am enjoying it. My first priority with Cecilia, who I call Annie, is to take her to the doctors, she has sores on her fingers & toes & just like B she has maggots in them, one of her thumbs is three times bigger than it should be due to infection, she is also quite malnourished, I am sure with the right care, nutrition & love Annie will thrive.
