What a kind gentleman :-) Maybe next time I will think twice when people start to question me, I guess they are only curious as it isn't often you see 'white' people with 'black' children!!
This is a blog created to keep all my family and friends in the UK updated on my life as a Mother of four Tanzanian children. Please feel free to read and leave a comment :)

- In June 2011 I moved to Arusha, Tanzania, East Africa with the view of staying for one year. More than two years later and I have four beautiful Tanzanian foster children and there is no sign of me moving back to the UK. This blog was created as a way for family and friends to keep up to date on our life here and to see my little ones growing up, feel free to take a read and leave your comments. Amazed by Kindness Again
Today 29/04 I was in the supermarket when a man approached me and started to ask questions about the children, I was a little abrupt because to be honest I get fed up of people always asking questions, are they your children? Where did you get them? etc., when I am just trying to get on with my daily life!! I was polite though, just abrupt. When I told the man I am adopting the children he praised me for my good work and then said he will buy some ice-cream, pay for it and leave it at the check out for me to collect. I happened to be behind him in the queue, he was holding our ice cream when he quickly disappeared and came back with a tub twice the size.
Now ice cream here isn't particularly cheap, 4 litres, 15pounds~! I brought a large tub when I first got Selemani but have never brought any more, I did however look at the ice cream today and debated whether I should get some but decided against it as I have spent a lot the past couple of days, so this was an extra special treat :-)
What a kind gentleman :-) Maybe next time I will think twice when people start to question me, I guess they are only curious as it isn't often you see 'white' people with 'black' children!!

Wow, that's such a nice story! I'm always having to remind myself that there are kind people everywhere. I can imagine that it would get kind of tiring to have people always ask you those types of questions... Glad you had a nice experience this time!
ReplyDeletehow generous. 15 quid for cecream????? i'll be making my own when i (eventually)come over, people are going to be interested in you, your lot are a pretty rare bunch-obviously young mzungu with 3 beautiful kids, there's not many of your kind in africa, if there were a few thousand more the orphanages could be emptied xx
