About Me

My photo
In June 2011 I moved to Arusha, Tanzania, East Africa with the view of staying for one year. More than two years later and I have four beautiful Tanzanian foster children and there is no sign of me moving back to the UK. This blog was created as a way for family and friends to keep up to date on our life here and to see my little ones growing up, feel free to take a read and leave your comments. To find out about the work I am doing here visit www.tauf.org.uk (under construction).

A BIG Zawadi (gift)

In This photo you are looking at 30,000tzs, roughly £12, not much you say eh...?? Not much to you maybe but a lot here in Africa where a little bit of money goes a looooong way!

Why am I telling you this you may ask, well a couple of weeks ago Susan and myself were sitting in a restaurant with the children, having a very nice African buffet dinner. Along comes a man, a complete stranger and hands us this money stating 'This is for the children's dinner' and then he disappeared.

What a kind a generous man, a person who probably has A LOT less than I do, in a country where everyone thinks 'Mzungus' white people are rich, they are usually asking me for money but for a guy to just approach me and hand over this money really took my breath away.

Thank-you to that wonderful person, this money didn't just pay for the children's dinner, it payed for all of our food and drinks, like I said, a little money goes a long way here in Africa.
