About Me

My photo
In June 2011 I moved to Arusha, Tanzania, East Africa with the view of staying for one year. More than two years later and I have four beautiful Tanzanian foster children and there is no sign of me moving back to the UK. This blog was created as a way for family and friends to keep up to date on our life here and to see my little ones growing up, feel free to take a read and leave your comments. To find out about the work I am doing here visit www.tauf.org.uk (under construction).

My Family Album!

The past couple of weeks since B arrived have been busy but wonderful. B has settled in very well and the kids have taken to her amazingly well. They like to feed her and help me by fetching things around the house, they are so helpful. B is just a little darling, she is so intelligent with a very big personality. We have been to see an American pediatrician who like myself and a couple of others he is a bit stunned by her size as she is almost perfectly healthy. There were concerns about possible TB but a chest x-ray confirmed she didn't have it only a slight case of pneumonia which has cleared up with anti-biotics. We made a rather gruesome discovery during her first week, maggots in her feet, after picking them out and putting her on cream they have also cleared up and her foot is now looking amazing. There are no tests to confirm this and only time will tell but it may be that she is a dwarf as there is a type of dwarfism where the person is in proportion just little, we will see what happens over time with a good diet and added vitamins and minerals. Also Nancy has been on medication for Anemia which has cleared up now much to her disappointment as she looked forward to her medicine every day. She is a rather strange child as when she had a blood test she didn't make a sound and the Dr said she is the only patient he knows who likes those meds!!
My mum arrived on the 9th and we have been having a wonderful time with her, she has been cooking us some lovely meals and we have been enjoying each others company. Right now she is in the middle of the Serengeti on safari...lucky thing!!! She is thoroughly enjoying the children and I really appreciate her help.
Here are some photos from my family album...
Waiting patiently to see the doctor
I asked Mama Musa to braid Nancy's hair ready for when my mum arrived, I imagined she would so the normal braids so imagine my shock when I came back from B's hospital appointment to see this!! I must say I didn't like it at all at first but once it was all finished it grew on me and now I love it :-) Thanks Mama Musa and Stella!!

In their onesies, I love them dressed like this...so cute!!
Selemani loves to build towers with the duplo given to us by a friend, you know who you are friend...thank-you!!

When mum arrived it was like Christmas had come all over again, we had gifts from friends, family, old neighbours. Thank-you to everyone who gave gifts to my children, I appreciate it so much, everything we received was so wonderful!
The following are a few of the wonderful things...
T-shirts from my uncle and aunt
Dressing up outfits from mum
Dressing gowns which I brought & had delivered to mum
Nancy's crown from her dressing up outfit on B
Thanks to some friends this past week we have discovered a wonderful playground for the children to play at. Unfortunately it is quite far away from where I live but it is worth it to go to once per week and it has reasonable priced food.
This dress was from AuntieSally x

Mum and I took the kids swimming one day, it was B's first time and she surprisingly quite liked it though I didn't keep her in long as it was cold. Selemani loves the water but he gets cold a lot quicker than Nancy so doesn't spend as much time in there, Nancy had a lot of fun swimming with mum.

Thats it from the family album for today...enjoy!! x

  1. Wow, so much great stuff to comment on! First of all, and definitely most importantly, I just LOVE how happy the kids all look. Wonderful to see them growing and flourishing so much!! Nancy's hair is cute and I just love their dress-up clothes and bathrobes. They look like Korean kids with the ears on their bathrobes. People here love to have ears on kid's hoods and even on their cell phone cases. It's amusing. Thanks for sharing so many wonderful family pictures!
